The path
Much appreciated in the role of left-wing tertinus was an authentic monument of Italian football, nicknamed by Genoese fans "the son of God", because well so the ball was played only in paradise! He commanded the defense with authority, putting himself in light for his timing both in the head game and in the advance one, as well as having a velvety left foot. In Genoa he played for 17 seasons; a very correct player, throughout his career he was expelled only once, in a shooting contest against Juventus where the referee Varisco dropped from the field even three Genoese.
In the national team he was a long captain and played 43 games until his farewell in 1925. He made his debut on 26–05–1910 when he was called to the national reserve and subtracted in the game against Hungary, the second in absolute of the blues, who still dressed the white shirt. He remains the youngest in the country, at 16 years, 3 months and 23 days. It is said that at the time of entering the field to replace Aldo Cevenini was so excited not to find even the scarpini, so much so as to have to fit the walking shoes.
Small and minute, he played in Milan's youth from half a left wing, although at the debut in the first team, which took place in 1909 only 15 years, he already occupied the role that will be his of left tertinus. To his precociousness and skill is tied a curious anecdote, according to which, stole the ball from that sacred monster of the milanist and Italian football of the debuts that was Herbert Kilpin, received a kick in the ass rebuke. The football season reached the Genoa line (which will become an icon) at only 19 years.
It was 1913 and for the youngest player the record number of 24 thousand lire was paid. Soon a column of the major national team was confirmed, and one of the strongest Italian players. With the red-blue jersey De Vecchi won the 1914-15 championship in the championship interrupted by the outbreak of World War I, then replicating with the successes of 1922-23 and 1923-24. He retired from football at the end of the 1928–29 season, at 35 years old. It is to be considered one of the greatest Italian players of all time.
