The path
Football shook him very young at baseball, the sport he seemed destined to. Bruno Conti, nicknamed "Mara-zico" or "Brunetto", "bandiera" of Rome, played almost all his career with the Giallorossi (apart from two leagues with Genoa in Serie B), between 1973 and 1991. With the jersey number 7 he was part of the historical nucleus of Liedholm, along with Falcao, Di Bartolomei and Pruzzo, of the team that in 1983 conquered the shield and in 1984 the final Cup of European Champions.
With Roma he scored 35 goals and won four Coppe Italia (1980, 1981, 1984, 1986). It was Ala equipped with great balls, fantasy and tactical cunning. He made his debut in the National Team with Enzo Bearzot in 1980 and played for 46 times, scoring 5 goals. World champion in Spain in 1982, despite being left, he scored his only goal of the 1982 World Cup against Peru, becoming one of the best players in the event.
After the goal against Poland at the 1982 World Championships, Paolo Rossi declared that for the beauty and precision of Bruno Conti's cross, he had to wait for the ball on his head and push it on the net. He played a fundamental role in the Italian victory against Germany: despite his admonishment for a foul on Karl-Heinz Förster after 31 minutes, he actively participated in Marco Tardelli's second goal and created conditions for the third goal by making a break on the midfield line and launching Alessandro Altobelli towards the net.
Bruno Conti was one of the most appreciated Italian players by critics and other footballers, both for his undisputed technical skills and for his conciliatory character that helped to find a unanimous judgment in favor of him. He retired from the professional football world in 1991: since then he was coach of the Roma Spring Team, then he took care of the youth sector of the same, discovering talents of current Rome and the future.
From 14 March to 30-06-2005, after the resignation of coach Luigi Del Neri led the AS Roma, bringing it in the final of Coppa Italia and guaranteeing access to the Uefa Cup; at the end of the 2004-2005 sports season, closed his adventure as a coach, he entered the management ranks of Rome as a technical director. A small curiosity is about the song "La Leva calcistica del '68" by Francesco De Gregori who is not dedicated to Bruno Conti, as some argue mistakenly, but at the midfielder of Roma Agostino Di Bartolomei who died suicidal in 1994.
In National: 46 games played (20 wins, 14 draws, 12 strikes), 5 goals.
